Discover Malcesine and surroundings: stories, places and inspiration from Lake Garda
Malcesine is one of the most photographed places on Lake Garda, but its most beautiful views are not always the most famous ones.
A journey through alleys, light, lake scenery and hidden details to tell the story of the village beyond the classic postcard images.
Beyond its most iconic places, Malcesine hides quieter and less obvious corners, perfect for those who love photographing not only landscapes, but also the authentic atmosphere of Lake Garda.
1. Val di Sogno in the early morning
More than just a beach: Val di Sogno is one of the most poetic corners of Malcesine, where lake and mountain meet in a truly scenic way. It is ideal for photographing calm water, reflections, small boats, soft light and natural views. FAI describes it as a place where lake and mountain come together.

2. The path through the olive trees above Malcesine
A more original idea compared to the classic lakeside walk. Some routes towards Val di Sogno pass through secondary roads, olive trees, stone walls and unexpected glimpses of the lake.
A walk among nature and relaxation.
3. Cassone and the Arìl river
Cassone is a small hamlet of Malcesine, very picturesque but less predictable than the historic centre. Here you can find the Arìl, known as the shortest river in the world, about 175 metres long. The village offers a small harbour, stone corners, clear water and a more intimate atmosphere.

4. The garden of Palazzo dei Capitani
Many people photograph the centre of Malcesine, but few stop to admire the garden of Palazzo dei Capitani. It is an elegant and romantic place, close to the harbour, perfect for more refined shots: architecture, greenery, lake views and historical details.

5. The Old Harbour (Porto Vecchio)during the quieter hours
The Old Harbour is well known, but it becomes much more interesting when photographed early in the morning or in the evening, when the light changes and the tourist crowds become thinner. It is perfect for capturing the most authentic side of Malcesine: boats, reflections, colourful façades and lake life.
Still boats, dark or golden water, village lights reflected in the harbour.
+1 Prai area on Monte Baldo
Hiking routes also pass through this area, such as the Faigolo – Prai – Colmo di Malcesine – Sentiero delle Vacche – Piombi/Signor trail, ideal for hikers who are already used to mountain paths.
Authentic views from a different perspective.
Look for details, symmetry, natural frames and less crowded views. A window, a boat, a staircase or a reflection can tell much more than a simple panoramic shot.
Malcesine is full of small personal viewpoints: all you need to do is slow down and look with curiosity.
